Big News Dropped For RESIDENT EVIL's 25th Anniversary!

Capcom is coming full force with celebration releases for their hit survival horror game series, Resident Evil. So much was just announced for the series as a whole and it’s easy to say that they have announced something interesting for everyone that has even the slightest bit of interest in Resident Evil. With news covering Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4, collaborations, and more, this will have to be broken down by game.

Resident Evil Village

First up, let’s go over everything announced surrounding their upcoming title, Resident Evil Village. Above this section, you will find the latest trailer for the game, but at the bottom of this game’s news you will find the latest game mode announced to return; The Mercenaries. Both of these videos show some interesting aspects of the game.

The trailer itself reveals that the mystery man from the previous trailer is Heisenberg. Even with this knowledge, we don’t know what role he plays in Ethan’s quest to find his daughter. Plus, Chris Redfield also makes an appearance with questionable motives, creating more mystery as to what his role is. After seeing this trailer, we find out that the action does not stop once Ethan’s story concludes.

After being highly requested to make its return, The Mercenaries game mode is back. Players must complete increasingly challenging objectives before the clock runs out in this additional game mode, which is unlocked by completing the main campaign. The Duke merchant from the main game appears in the mode, offering weapons and upgrades to help tackle the challenges. Additionally, players can acquire abilities that enhance their weapons or physical abilities.

Probably the best part of the announcement for this game was the reveal of a time-limited demo for almost all platforms. They will allow players one hour to explore the village and castle areas of the game. This demo will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Google Stadia, and Steam. Also, it will only be available for 24 hours starting May 1 at 5 pm PT for North America, South America, and Latin America residents, with a pre-load option starting April 29 at 5 pm PT.

However, PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 players will have two early access opportunities, where they will have an 8-hour window to play 30 minutes for each section. The first date will offer the village portion starting April 17 at 5 pm PT with a pre-load option starting today at 4 pm PT. A second date will offer the castle area starting on April 24 at 5 pm PT with a pre-load option also starting today at 4 pm PT.

Resident Evil 4 VR

Moving on to their next big announcement, the rumored remaster of Resident Evil 4 is announced to be a virtual reality release! That’s right, they announced Resident Evil 4 VR and will be releasing it for the Oculus Quest 2. There aren’t any details regarding if they plan to bring it to other platforms, such as the PSVR, but they plan to showcase this announcement further on April 21st during the Oculus Gaming Showcase. You can catch that event on Twitch, YouTube, and Facebook at 3 pm PT, but for now, here is the announcement shown off from the showcase.

Dead by Daylight x Resident Evil

A collaboration between Behaviour Interactive and Capcom was revealed with a short, detail-less trailer that shows that the June chapter for Dead by Daylight will feature Resident Evil characters. They don’t reveal the monster, although it is likely going to be Nemesis, nor do they show the survivor, which my guess would be between Jill or Chris. However, we are sure to get more details on this chapter in the near future as the chapter gets closer to release. Either way, this is pretty exciting and is easily going to make for a great addition to the Killer and Survivor rosters of the popular 1v4 PvP game.

Resident Evil Anime Series on Netflix

Finally, we have the anime series that was announced to release on Netflix this coming July. We didn’t get a whole lot of information on it, but the series is called Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. In the reveal trailer, we get a glimpse at the story and characters featured, so we do know that Leon and Claire are working together inside the infamous mansion and are protecting the President. I’d say that is pretty standard Resident Evil lore groundwork, honestly.
