GOD OF WAR RAGNAROK Gets New Game+

Sony Santa Monica’s beloved follow-up to God of War (2018) got a major upgrade yesterday with some surprising new content. God of War Ragnarök launched last year to near-universal acclaim, picking up strong critical reviews and more than a few Game of the Year awards along the way. The conclusion to the Norse duology that began back in 2018, Ragnarök told a poignant story about love, loss, and what it means to truly be family.

The one major feature the game was lacking, though, was New Game+. Sure, there was more to do throughout the nine realms even after the credits rolled, but players had no way of diving back into the full story experience with their fully upgraded arsenal. But that all changed yesterday when the game’s latest update rolled out.

God of War Ragnarok’s New Game+ is an impressive addition to the game, bringing a bevy of new options for players eager to fight their way through the Norse Pantheon once more. New Game+ includes new armor sets, including the Armor of the Black Bear that was first seen in the game’s opening scene. And for those players who enjoy pain, there’s the Spartan Armor set that locks Kratos to level 1 and the Zeus Armor set that drastically increases Kratos’ damage output while also boosting all damage taken.

As if brand-new armor wasn’t enough, there are also new appearances for existing armor sets that can be purchased for Hacksilver. New enchantments can also be purchased from the Huldra Brothers’ shop, though some are only acquired by defeating certain enemies in New Game+. Some of these enchantments and unique perks are found on other gear, opening up new build possibilities.

And to just make this update even more staggering, Kratos can now reach an even higher level, upgrade his abilities with higher tier modifiers, and boost his stats further with additional Yggdrasil drops. The arena in Niflheim has new enemies to spar against, and you can mix and match any companion character from the story to join you in the fight.

For anyone who’s been feeling that itch to dive back into God of War Ragnarök, this is the update for you, and it’s available now for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
