GOD OF WAR Sequel May Be Heading To Ancient Egypt
God Of War, one of Sony’s upcoming exclusives for the PS4, doesn’t even have a release date yet and we are already hearing talks of the possible setting of it’s sequel. Game Informer recently conducted an interview with the game’s director, Cory Barlog, in which Barlog states:
"The Greek games were the Greek era of God of War…Moving on, the next mythological belief system he interacts with became the Norse era of God of War. But we may end up going on to the Egyptian era and the Mayan era and so on and so forth."
This isn’t exactly confirmed, considering that the current God of War isn’t even finished yet, but it is intriguing to see where the studio is planning on taking the series. It appears they want to expand the series to a much wider audience than before, changing things up from the old formula of the original trilogy. Barlog continued:
"To me, that was important, because I really think we needed to have a much bigger audience," I want this to reach a lot of people; I want this to be on the level of the Uncharted’s and the Assassin's Creed’s. We want to grow this franchise big time."
Being a huge fan of the original God of War trilogy, I am excited to see that the studio is planning ahead for what’s to become of Kratos post God of War. I wouldn’t mind seeing Kratos take on the great god Anubis, smashing his way through Egypt’s many pyramids and tearing mummys apart limb-by-limb. The possibility of a Mayan centric God Of War sounds the most intriguing to me, giving the title fresh territory as we have not seen this era implemented in many games, if any.
The team has stated on numerous occasions that this entry to the series will be vastly different from what we are used to, including an over the shoulder camera and a much deeper character development than what we have seen in previous iterations. Are you excited for the new God of War title? Where would you like to see Kratos conquer next? Let us know in the comments!
