HORIZON FORBIDDEN WEST Heads To A Volcanic Los Angeles In BURNING SHORES
Horizon Forbidden West saw the continuation of Aloy’s story as she ventured beyond the borders of known lands and into a dangerous and unstable region. The sequel included new characters, stories, and combat mechanics, as well as the sprawling land known as the Forbidden West. But not all of the American West Coast was explorable, and Guerrilla Games is determined to change that.
Guerrilla showed up at the Game Awards with the exclusive reveal of Burning Shores, a new narrative expansion for Horizon Forbidden West that takes place after the end of the main story. The teaser trailer shows Aloy flying over the ruins of Los Angeles, now a volcanic archipelago, before revealing a new, mechanical menace looming over the Hollywood sign. The trailer ends with the reveal of an April 19th, 2023 release date.
Horizon Forbidden West was one of the best-reviewed games of the year and was in the running for more than a few laurels at this year’s Game Awards. The game, which was released on February 18th, 2022, follows Aloy as she journeys west to find the source of a deadly plague and save the world from another cataclysm.
Guerrilla also confirmed in a blog post that this expansion will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5, citing a “grand vision technically and creatively” as the reason for this decision. This signals a shift for Sony, who have released the majority of their first-party titles for the PlayStation 4 as well. Their highest profile release this year, God of War Ragnarök, was one such title.
Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores will release on April 19th, 2023, exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
