For the first time since the Nintendo eShop was announced, players will now be able to migrate purchases with their account. While there has been no word as to whether or not existing Nintendo ID purchases will be able to be migrated from Wii U to Switch, it is confirmed that players will now be able to keep the games they purchased should they purchase a different console or upgrade.

Your Nintendo Account contains your Nintendo eShop purchase history and current balance. By re-linking your Nintendo Account after initializing the console, it will be possible to redownload any software or DLC purchased using that account. (Software that has been discontinued may not be available for redownload in some cases.)

While this won't mean a whole lot right now, it is comforting to know that our games will travel with us down the road. Good on Nintendo for finally modernizing their archaic system.
