RATCHET & CLANK: RIFT APART Revealed And Is The First Game To Show Off The PS5's SSD Speed!

Ratchet & Clank is one of those Sony exclusive franchises I have just never been able to get into. They have always looked interesting enough but they just never kept my attention long enough to keep playing through them. I know I am in a very small minority there as the series has appeared on every PlayStation console since its PS2 debut with a remake of the original title even hitting PS4.

During today’s PS5 games reveal even the next entry of the franchise has been revealed as Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart! While I am still not super interested in playing it, there is no denying that it looks absolutely sick! While the footage in the trailer had no HUD elements it looked very much like in-game footage rather than scripted sequences like some of the other game reveals. This might also be the first time the PS5’s SSD speeds are being showcased! During the trailer, our heroes are thrown through a number of dimensional rifts that feature new terrain and objects. Many of these transitions happen quickly and there isn’t the slightest sign of a stutter which makes good on the PS5’s promise for loads.

The teaser was quickly followed by actual gameplay and it looks really good in motion as Ratchet is able to move to different sections of the level by grappling onto dimensional rifts. The footage showcased is in alpha state but even still it is looking really good. A number of advanced lighting techniques will be employed for the game and Clank will even have ray-traced reflections adding a level of realism not yet seen in the franchise.

No word has been given on when Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart will be released but it will surely be a fan favorite! What did you think of the gameplay footage?
