Sega Launches 60th Anniversary Website Dedicated To The Companies History

The teased 60th anniversary Sega site is now live and it much cooler than I ever thought it could be! The site pays tribute to the history of Sega from its humble beginnings through its rise to the company we know it as today. The history isn’t super detailed but it includes most major hardware releases and a number of key franchises and acquisitions. It is really fascinating to read through and fans of the company or gaming history, in general, will find many cool details here!

A message from current Sega Chairman, Haruki Satomi, has also been posted

Other features of the site aren’t currently live but beginning in April Sega want to hear from fans with a dedicated message writing system. For anyone that writes a message they will be entered to win one of 60 special Sega 60th anniversary chalk bags featuring Sonic the Hedgehog.

To further celebrate, Sega has a new mascot for the occasion. Meet Sega Shiro, spiritual successor to the legendary Segata Sanshiro! While Sega Shiro doesn’t randomly attack people the same corny energy can be felt between both mascots with theme song included. The coolest thing about Sega Shiro is that the actor portraying him, Maito Fujioka, is the son of Segata Sanshiro actor, Hiroshi Fujioka! Check out the new trailer above.

Even though I landed on the Nintendo side of the console wars during their duration I have always been fond of a number of Sega systems and games. The Gamegear was an amazing handheld for its time despite the poor battery life and I sunk hundreds of hours into it. Dreamcast is still one of my favorite systems to date and the more I discover about Sega Saturn, the more I like it. The different hardware expansions for the Sega Genesis are also just so cool it is unfortunate they couldn’t have found more success. Then there is the franchise that I still play to date like Phantasy Star, Sonic, and Shenmue! I guess in the end all I can say is GO SEGA!

What Sega franchises and consoles are you celebrating for the companies 60th anniversary?
