SPLINTER CELL REMAKE Officially Announced By Ubisoft

Today, Ubisoft shattered the gaming world by announcing that Sam Fisher would finally return to consoles via their newest project, Splinter Cell Remake. The new remake, developed by Ubisoft Toronto, would rebuild the original Splinter Cell (2002) game from the ground up.

Ubisoft will be using its Snowdrop engine to bring the game to a new generation of players and gaming platforms It’s the same engine being used for the upcoming titles Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and their untitled Star Wars project. The game will also take a step forward into modern gaming with enhanced visuals, including dynamic lighting, and feature all-new gameplay.

There’s a full interview with the project’s Creative Director Chris Auty, Producer Matt West, and Technical Producer Peter Handrinos over at Ubisoft Toronto which can be viewed in its entirety right here.

“To me, a remake takes what you’d do in a remaster and goes a little bit further with it. The original Splinter Cell has a lot that was amazing and revolutionary at the time it came out, 19 years ago. The gaming public now has an even more refined palate. So, I think it kind of has to be a remake as opposed to a remaster. Although we're still in the very earliest stages of development, what we're trying to do is make sure the spirit of the early games remains intact, in all of the ways that gave early Splinter Cell its identity. So, as we're building it from the ground up, we're going to update it visually, as well as some of the design elements to match player comfort and expectations, and we are going to keep it linear like the original games, not make it open world. How do we make sure that new fans are able to pick up the controller and dive right in, and fall in love with the game and the world right from the get-go?” - Matt West Producer, Ubisoft Toronto

This is all some very exciting news for fans like myself, who have been waiting years to see Sam Fisher and his world return to gaming. Especially with the fact that there aren’t many if at all, games like Splinter Cell being created these days.

As the game has only recently been greenlit, there currently is no release date planned nor has there been any gaming platforms announced so far.
