Amazon Prime’s THE BOYS – First Impressions

If the latest offering from the MCU or the latest blunder from the DCEU isn’t your thing, then there is good news in the world of superheroes. Even if you’ve reached a level of fatigue at which the mere mention of superheroes makes you grimace, this still might interest you. Amazon Prime’s new show The Boys has become available, and it’s far from the heart-warming or saccharine material that has come to define the superhero genre.

It’s an R-rated, gritty look at the world if superheroes had corporate backing. And it’s not pretty. The first five minutes of the pilot proves that a world with superheroes may be less than ideal. Greed, deception, and violence bubble beneath the surface. It will be interesting to see how the story unfolds, but it’s a fresh take on a genre to which many are growing numb. If you’re on the prowl for a new show, I encourage you to check it out. But be warned! Its mature content is a great deal darker than the standard fare that swings into theaters. Bloody gore and a panacea to the concept of sugar-coated supers await you.
