BATTLEFIELD 2042 Continued To Impress At Xbox's E3 Showcase

Last Wednesday, gamers were treated to the reveal trailer for the highly anticipated Battlefield 2042. The trailer did a great job at teasing fans as to what we might expect to experience when in an actual game of it. The biggest takeaway though was the return of dynamic maps. Most notably, the huge tornado that shows up at the end of the trailer.

Well, at yesterday’s Xbox + Bethesda’s Game Showcase, we got a look at actual gameplay. The trailer has some honestly jaw-dropping moments that I’m sure nobody expected. Firstly, the maps are ever-changing due to destruction and the dynamic aspects of each map whether it be a sandstorm, tornado, or rocket taking off. It’s also evident that the in-game maps are ginormous.

To balance the traversal to map size ratio, DICE has added some new ways of traversal that are going to change the way you play. There are new futuristic planes to take control of, ziplines to carry you from building to building, a wingsuit to get you out of sticky situations, and a grappling-hook gun for taking you from A to Z quicker. I cannot wait to swing around the battlefield like a military Spider-Man. It’s intriguing, to say the least as these are elements brand-new to the series.

If DICE and EA play their cards right, they have the makings of a truly innovative FPS title that could push the genre into the future, literally. With its 128-player matches and its new enhancements to gameplay, this is shaping up to be a bigger and better version of Battlefield 4. Let’s just hope that the launch is better than Battlefield 4’s too. It is worth noting that on previous-gen consoles, you can only take part in 64-player matches so I’m interested to see how that works on such large maps.

Battlefield 2042 launches this October 22nd on Xbox Series X|S, PC, and PlayStation 5. There is going to be more to see at this year’s EA Play on July 22nd, so stay tuned!
