Fans of the ever-continuing Final Fantasy series know all about their friendly pals, the Chocobo. While they have been a companion for transport in the series, Square Enix has decided that it is time for them to have some fun! To do this, they have announced the upcoming kart racing game Chocobo GP, which is set to release on March 10th for the Nintendo Switch.
In Chocobo GP, players will have a variety of Chocobo characters to choose from, each with their own abilities and variants. Equip Magicites and take out the competition as you drift through various familiar courses in online and offline multiplayer modes. There will also be multiple game modes to choose from, including Story Mode, Series Races, Time Attack, Custom Races, and Chocobo GP Mode. Also, it is worth noting that the multiplayer will be available in both local split-screen and online.
To allow the most opportunity for their player base, they are releasing a free-to-play version called Chocobo GP Lite simultaneously with the full game. In the Lite version, players can play the Story Mode prologue and participate in races both online and offline, including the Chocobo GP Mode, but with a limited character roster. In these races, they will be able to join players who have the full version of the game. If you like the game from the Lite experience and decide to purchase the full game, all of your saved data will be transferred over, so this could be a great way to see if you are really interested in the game before buying it.
Now, if you can’t wait to start playing with your racing Chocobo friend, they have already released a free-to-play mobile game called Chocobo GP Dash for both iOS and Android. It isn’t representative of the full game coming to the Nintendo Switch, but it could help pass the time while you await the official Chocobo GP game. Either way, check out the trailer below and then let us know in the comments if this upcoming kart racer is a title you will be adding to your library this year!
