Capcom’s upcoming installment to the Devil May Cry franchise will allow players to trade in real money for character upgrades. Microtransactions were confirmed for Devil May Cry 5 during the latest showcase of the game at Tokyo Games Show.
Microtransactions were present in Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition where orbs can be purchased at Divinity Statues to hasten character progression. However, given the backlash that the system received, it is surprising that Capcom still decided to include it on the upcoming game.
When Gamespot asked the game’s director, Hideaki Itsuno, regarding the inclusion of microtransactions in Devil May Cry 5, Itsuno explained that “with giving people the ability to purchase Red Orbs, it’s something we want to give people as an option. If they want to save time and just want to get all the stuff at once, those people can do that. But on the other hand, I don’t feel you have to get all the moves. You should be able to play it the way you want to play it.”
Moreover, Devil May Cry 5 will feature a multiplayer mode that will support up to three players. Currently, Capcom is still yet to release details on how the multiplayer component will work on the upcoming game. Devil May Cry 5 is set to release on March 8, 2019, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
