Dunkey's YOOKA LAYLEE Review Shows Just How Mixed The Reception On This Game Is

Yooka-Laylee is the first game of 2017 to get that polarizing review treatment, and reviews are literally all over the place. I've seen people trash it because it's too much like Banjo-Kazooie, and I've seen people trash it because it's not enough like Banjo-Kazooie. We'll have our review up here in a couple days hopefully, but until then, let's talk about the latest high-profile review by Videogamedunkey. Dunkey is always a hard one to judge as you don't always know if he's being satirical or serious in some of his reviewing. This review, in particular, had some things that need to be addressed before taking his word as gospel...

  • Unity is not a shitty engine...yeah people make bad simulator games with it but they've also made a laundry list of games that look amazing. He's being hyperbolic to drive his point home but it's simply not true to state Unity is a bad engine and move on.
  • Banjo Tooie is near universally regarded the superior game to Banjo Kazooie. Dunkey is among the first I've ever heard to say Banjo Tooie is a bad game or an any way inferior to the first game in the series. I think he says it mostly because the layout of Banjo Tooie's open world is the same as Yooka Laylee and it makes a better point if he drives home Banjo Tooie is a bad game.

Honestly those are my main issues behind his video, but he also injected some fair and solid criticism. Ultimately, it's his video so he can say what he wants. Check it out below.
