Developer and publisher WayForward has a lot of goodwill behind them and for good reason. Besides their excellent original games like the Shantae series of games, their treatment of well-loved existing games like DuckTales proves that they are an incredibly versatile studio. With WayForward already set to release so many games this year, including Dawn of the Monsters and River City Girls 2, it was quite a shock to see that we would be getting a port of the formerly Apple Arcade exclusive Spidersaurs.
Spidersaurs is a Contra-like shooter, where players are tasked with fighting hordes of spider-dinosaur hybrid creatures created by the shady, if not sinister, INGESTCorp. Originally created as a new food source, the mutants cause mayhem throughout the world and it is up to police cadet Adrian and punk rocker Victoria to run-‘n’-gun their way through multiple levels, fighting off wave after wave of Spidersuars. This is more than a direct port of the Apple Arcade version, however. WayForward has stated in a press release that this is the definitive edition of the game, which includes more content than the initial release.
Spidersaurs was developed by the team that brought us Contra 4, and is set to launch in Spring 2022 for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
