In 343’s most recent MCC development update, it was revealed that the collection would be receiving various quality of life improvements and content updates following the upcoming release of Halo 3: ODST on PC. One of the many features arriving later this year, and arguably the biggest one, is cross-play between Xbox and PC players. Easily one of the most requested features, alongside input-based matchmaking (also happening later this year) since the release of Halo Reach on PC last year.
On top of these huge features, it was also revealed that a brand new season, cosmetics for Halo 3, and much more would launch alongside Halo 3: ODST on PC. For more information on all of the features and content coming to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, you can take a look at the official update from 343.
In other news, it was recently revealed through a leak, and confirmed by Microsoft afterwards, that Halo Infinite multiplayer would be free-to-play when the highly anticipated title launches alongside the Xbox Series X later this year. This news is absolutely huge for the Halo community when it comes to growth, but it does raise concerns about how microtransactions will work with the free-to-play model. At the end of the day, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens and how 343 deals with the community feedback.
Halo 3 launched on PC earlier this month. To celebrate, 343 has offered up an exclusive skull and nameplate that can be earned just by launching The Master Chief Collection before the upcoming release of Halo 3: ODST on PC.
