https://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/god-of-war-ps4/ From Santa Monica Studio and creative director Cory Barlog comes a new beginning for one of gaming's most recognizable icons. Living as a man outside the shadow of the gods, Kratos must adapt to unfamiliar lands, unexpected threats, and a second chance at being a father.

It has just been announced that God of War will be released on April 20 for the PlayStation 4. Santa Monica Studio, has just released a new trailer to tease fans on what the new game would be like.

The game would be a reboot of the long-running action series, previously focused on Greek mythology, the game will now revolve around Norse mythology, and will feature several changes among its characters. Kratos, the protagonist of the game, was previously portrayed as a wrathful and vengeful god. However, in the upcoming game, he is seen as a father, who is trying to balance his godliness and at the same time, going through the struggles of parenting, especially with his son, Atreus.

Sony Interactive Entertainment, together with God of War’s creative director, Cory Barlog, has confirmed the April release of the game, and gave fans a preview of the adventures that awaits Kratos and Atreus as they embark in a new environment set in the Norse wilds. Check out the official description of the game from Sony:

“Living as a man outside the shadow of the gods, Kratos must adapt to unfamilliar lands, unexpected threats, and a second chance at being a father. Together with his son Atreus, the pair will venture into the brutal Norse wilds and fight to fulfill a deeply personal quest.”

For this new installment in the series, it seems like Sony is trying to align the franchise to focus on a more in-depth narrative. It was clearly shown in the trailer that this time around, players will get to see Kratos’ softer side, and will focus on his struggle to be a caring father. However, even if the preview we got showed that the game will be character driven, we can still expect the action and the satsifaction on taking down giant monsters, which we loved in previous installments.

God of War will be available for the PlayStation 4, with a price tag of $60 for the standard edition. The game will also include a Collector’s Edition that includes the full game, a steelbook case, a nine-inch statue of Kratos and Atreus, two wooden figurine carvings, a cloth map, and a litograph, all for $130. Lastly, a Stone Mason edition will also be available for $150, which will include everything from the collector’s edition, plus four physical artifacts from the game.

What do you think of Sony’s attempt to a soft reboot of the God of War franchise
