Live A Live is one of Square Enix’s most beloved RPGs, and now Western gamers will finally get the chance to play it when it hits Nintendo Switch this July. This new release will remaster the 1994 classic with HD-2D graphics, improving the game’s visuals while retaining the original pixelated art style.
Live A Live features seven different protagonists across different time periods, and players can choose the order in which they tackle each character’s story. The game takes players across the history of its world, starting with pre-history and moving through the Old West, Imperial China, Edo Period Japan, present-day, the near future, and the distant future.
Each protagonist has their own tale to tell, but there are elements in each story that connect to the others. There are even additional scenarios players can unlock that bring all seven protagonists together against a recurring villain.
Live A Live was released by Square Enix in 1994, and the game marked the directorial debut of developer Takashi Tokita. Tokita had worked previously as the lead designer of Final Fantasy IV, and his work on Live A Live would directly influence his next directorial outing, Chrono Trigger.
Live A Live will make its grand, worldwide debut when it launches for the Nintendo Switch on July 22nd, 2022. Pre-orders are now available for the game via the Nintendo Switch eShop.
