This past week, we have received news on the incredible milestones that have been reached by two amazing titles. Players have been enjoying Hogwarts Legacy since Avalanche Software and Portkey Games, a subsidiary of Warner Bros Games, released it on February 10, 2023, almost as much, if not more than, the player base has been enjoying Elden Ring since FromSoftware and Bandai Namco released it on February 25, 2022. But the milestone numbers are in so we can get a direct look.
For a direct comparison, it looks like Elden Ring has shipped more than 20 million units worldwide after a full year has passed since launch. Hot on their tail, Hogwarts Legacy has sold more than 12 million units after only two weeks since launch. Seeing these numbers side-by-side is pretty astonishing and it goes to show what creating a wondrous world full of unique content and intuitive gameplay can do for a fan base.
We did get a few more details from Hogwarts Legacy first two weeks:
1.28 million peak concurrent viewers on Twitch at launch
280 million hours played to date
300% higher traffic to Wizarding World Digital over the normal monthly unique visitor average for the first 10 days of February
Seeing these numbers and how well Hogwarts Legacy has taken off despite the controversy around it, I would say that the statistics are pointing toward the possible Game of the Year for 2023. These two games may have vastly different gameplay styles, but the fan base behind each title is strong and continues to grow. Do you think Hogwarts Legacy will be able to match, or even surpass Elden Ring’s one-year stats?
Both Elden Ring and Hogwarts Legacy are available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.
