Narrative Title GERDA: A FLAME IN WINTER Aims To Be An Intimate Experience

One of the bigger names in the game industry for making impactful story-based games, DONTNOD, has teamed up with the Danish indie studio PortaPlay in order to publish a new experience. This game, known as Gerda: A Flame In Winter, was announced at the Nintendo Indie Showcase with a trailer that revealed the story is based on true events and it will be released in 2022 on PC via Steam and Nintendo Switch.

The story takes place during World War 2 and the German occupation of Denmark. Players will walk the path of Gerda, a nurse whose life is turned upside down overnight. Armed only with her wits and knowledge of her community, Gerda must try to save her loved ones while staying true to herself. A tale told not on the front line, but in the intimate setting of the small Danish village she grew up in. This journey is going to be filled with choices through a mix of exploration, dialog, and resource and relationship management.

Gerda: A Flame In Winter seems like a game that is going to pull on the heartstrings and open possibilities for the players to fail as much as they will be able to succeed. It’ll be best to be prepared to make tough decisions along the way with this one, as is the continued trend of titles from the DONTNOD collection.
