Nier: Automata has just sold over 3 million physical and digital units of the game worldwide as announced via a tweet from the game’s official Twitter account.
The game was able to reach the 3 million milestone after Nier: Automata reached 2.5 million in March, which shows that after being released for more than a year, the game is still able to sell a good pace, managing to move five hundred million units in three months.
Nier: Automata takes players in a post-apocalyptic world where androids and robots engage in battle. The game received mostly positive reviews given its fast-paced combat system and a truly memorable story that both newcomers and fans of the series have enjoyed. Automata served as a sequel to Nier, which was released back in 2010. The original game was a spinoff to the Drakengard series and became hugely successful that it surpassed the franchise it branched out from.
As for the future of the series, developer Platinum Games is currently hard at work on the upcoming Bayonetta 3, which will launch soon on the Nintendo Switch. Given this, it will probably take a long while for before we see the next game in the Nier franchise.
