Sora Joins The Fray As SUPER SMASH BROS ULTIMATE’s Final Fighter

In a special Super Smash Brothers Ultimate (SSBU) Direct yesterday, Nintendo officially revealed the final character joining the Super Smash Brothers Ultimate roster: Sora from Kingdom Hearts. The fan-favorite character was revealed in a cinematic trailer that hearkened back to the original announcement trailer for SSBU that was released back in 2018.

The trailer opens with a Squidling from the Splatoon series staring up at a burning Smash Brothers logo before revealing that all the characters are just static trophies. The only character who can still move is Mario, who walks up to the last ember of the burning Smash logo and reaches into the flames. He throws a fireball into the sky where it slowly takes on the form of Sora’s iconic weapon, the Keyblade.

The Keyblade then opens a portal and Sora himself floats through, flying around as the rest of the SSBU cast reanimate one final time. The series director for the Super Smash Brothers, Masahiro Sakurai, revealed after the trailer that Sora was the most requested character to join the franchise from a poll conducted six years ago.

Sora will come to SSBU alongside a Hallow Bastion stage and nine music tracks from various locations throughout the franchise’s history. His alternate color options will also reference outfits he’s worn throughout the series, such as his Kingdom Hearts 3 clothing or his appearance in the Timeless River world from Kingdom Hearts 2.

Sora will join the SSBU roster on October 18, 2021, and will be available for $5.99USD as a single purchase or as part of the Super Smash Brothers Ultimate Fighter Pass Volume 2 which can be purchased for $29.99USD.
