Mobirate, the creators of the immensely successful Space Expedition, has announced a demo for their upcoming title, Genopanic. The demo will debut at Steam Next Fest and showcase the game’s art style and gameplay. Steam Next Fest is a live stream where video games and other content are streamed as a sort of digital convention. With the way the game looks so far, Genopanic could be a potential show-stealer. And it is not a Metroidvania. It feels good to be able to say that about an indie game.
Players will get the chance to traverse the SIMBIRSK, a space station with the sole purpose of genetic experimentation. Ever thought about a 2D platforming Dead Space? Most probably haven’t, but Mobirate seems to know exactly how to make this concept work. The game will focus on exploration and collecting the unique monstrosities littered throughout the station. But to kill these crimes against nature, the player will have to rely on swords, gravity guns, and flamethrowers.
The station is not devoid of intelligent life. LAIK is a virtual dog that provides hints and helps the player along their journey. Then there is the station’s designated cat-girl VOLGA. She is also a virtual inhabitant but must be outsmarted, acting as a direct foil to LAIK. These characters will interact with the player while they unravel the mysteries behind the yet-unknown Dark Matter enigma.
SIMBIRSK has dark secrets waiting to be uncovered. Hopefully, some of these will be unveiled at Steam Next Fest!
The Genopanic demo will debut at Steam Next Fest from June 19th to June 26th. The game will be available on PC via Steam.
