Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is bringing the heat with a new realization of the zombies formula. The mode made its debut in Call of Duty: World At War and has been a fan favorite ever since its inclusion in every Treyarch developed iteration since then. Only this time, it takes place in the 80s. With this newly created version of the tried and true formula, the developers hope to venture into a new era for players to enjoy and take part in.
Black Ops Cold War steps forward into a new story being led by new and old characters. This story takes place in the same universe as the wrapped up story that came full-circle in Black Ops 4. It centers around something called Die Maschine, a powerful weapon that many, including the CIA, are fighting to find. You’ll play as a team called The Requiem. The Requiem is led by Weaver, which is a familiar face to the Black Ops series. You’ll be racing against the Omega Group, a Soviet Led group that is bent on harnessing Die Maschine’s powers. There’s a lot of intel to be found which directly uncovers the overall story between the lines. They tease that this is something never seen in the series.
All of your favorite perks will come back to the game as well as the core of what makes zombies so fun. Progression this time around is connected through Cold War globally, no matter what consoles you play on. This means that you can bring your loadouts with you, in-game. No more starting with a pistol, get some grit from the beginning. Zombies will also be part of the cross-platform mechanics added to the game. This ties into the battlepass as well with free content that they will be releasing for zombies, post-launch.
This looks to be the craziest and most ambitious zombies update yet and I cannot wait to get back into zombies. I personally feel that since Black Ops 2, zombies had lost something that made it so fun to play. This looks to take a step back and try out a new formula, made from the ground up entirely.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War comes out on November 13th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
