The Truth About The New SILENT HILL Game Rumors

Some rumors have been going around in regards to Konami, Sony, and Kojima Productions working on some new Silent Hill games and I have to say that there are a lot of questionable “facts” and “sources” being used for this. As I searched around on the various coverages regarding this matter, many referred to using RelyOnHorror’s coverage of the topic, so I will be using them as the main source for my findings.

The first thing to point out is that they simply state that they have two sources, but they don’t mention who either of these sources are nor their actual connection to the teams. However, let’s take them at their word since it is a reputable site and present the facts these sources give as true and work our way from there.

Silent Hill Reboot Rumor Speculation

Now, the sources mention that three of the main team members from the original Team Silent group from the original Silent Hill development team are interested. These three members are Keiichiro Toyama, the director and writer of the original 1999 title, Akira Yamaoka, the composer for pretty much everything Silent Hill, and Masahiro Ito, the creature designer for the original four titles in the series. The source naming these three have also said that they will be running the team to start a series reboot, which I would imagine would mean that Konami is paying them to remake the series after seeing the success of the Resident Evil series remakes.

I find this rumor to be very plausible because all of these members have stated their interest in getting back into the series if given the chance, but I don’t know if I believe the source when they say that production is even as far as Mr. Ito already working on some new creature designs. What I do see as plausible since they weren’t part of the whole Konami vs Kojima scenario, is that these three are working with Team Siren, the developers that created the PlayStation 3 title Siren: Blood Curse, which was an obvious Resident Evil x Silent Hill inspired game.

Silent Hills Production Continues Speculation

Here’s where the sources mention something I don’t find plausible and this is that Sony is working on a way to patch up the differences between Konami and Kojima Productions. This patch up is in hopes of creating a new Silent Hill game, which would likely be the continuation of Silent Hills since it has been canceled for five years and there is still a high demand for it to be created. The sources go on to talk about the specs expected for the game, such as using the advanced Virtual Reality set up that the PSVR will have on PlayStation 5, but let’s discuss this for a moment before going into the hype.

After such a spectacular show of disrespect to Kojima and many of the team members at Konami during the breakup, you want us to believe that they are just going to get over this and team up again? I honestly don’t see this happening. If anything, Konami is showing ambition for this title to Sony and Sony is relaying this to Kojima in hopes that they can work something out, but unless it is something where Konami gives rights and backs off completely, I just don’t see it. I’m not saying that Kojima is a spiteful man that holds grudges, but they are both companies living in a culture of respect and honor, but Konami has already shown a lack of both in their connection to Kojima which is why he created his own studio and took part of their staff in the first place.

Final Thoughts

Is it possible that we will get a new Silent Hill game in some manner? Yes, I do think this is possible.
But will it be an actual new game or just a Reboot? It will just be the reboot.

I can see Ito, Toyama, and Yamaoka working with Team Siren to reboot the series and create a remake version for the original three or four games in the series no doubt and am pretty excited about this idea myself. What I don’t see happening is Sony successfully getting Kojima to work with Konami again, especially since it wouldn’t just be Kojima that needs to accept this but all the members he brought from Konami that would have to be on board with working with them again. That’s a major bump in the road that this company trio would have to get over and while I hope that they can, I don’t think that they will.

Either way, we need more information to be released before we truly know what they have in store for us. Hopefully, this news will be officially released soon. At least a new Silent Hill movie is confirmed, if nothing else comes to be a reality.

Update

As I suspected, the rumors are 100% false! Not only were they farfetched to begin with, but Konami has also come straight out and stated that these weren’t true. However, they did want to stress that Pachinko machines are still available, so go eat your heart out on some money and time wasting gambling machine. Moving forward, let’s all just accept the horrible truth that Konami isn’t returning to the real gaming industry and the Silent Hill game series is officially over.
