TOM CLANCY’S XDEFIANT Officially Revealed, Closed Test Coming Next Month

In a video released earlier today, Ubisoft pulled the veil back on their newest Tom Clancy property: Tom Clancy’s XDefiant. Developed by Ubisoft San Francisco, the new game is the latest take on the arena-shooter genre but with a bit of Ubisoft flair.

Two of the leads on the project, Jason Schroeder and Mark Rubin, introduced the game by highlighting many of its unique features. The game pulls each of its character classes from factions out of different Tom Clancy games, essentially blending elements of the entire franchise into one, high-octane shooter. Not only can players mix and match elements of these factions to create their own custom class, but they can swap between classes during respawn to “adapt to a changing battlefield.”

The game is aiming to be a strong shooter, with Rubin stressing repeatedly that the game will focus on moment-to-moment gunplay and tight movement. The video also shows off some of the modifications players will be able to make to their guns in order to further customize their gameplay experience.

Development on the game is still in its early days, but Ubisoft San Francisco wants player input on how to improve the game over time. The first playtest period will launch on PC on August 5th, and players can sign up now at playxdefiant.com. The game will eventually come to the Xbox and PlayStation family of consoles, as well as Stadia and Amazon’s Luna streaming service.
