Who doesn’t love mechs? Especially when they come loaded with explosives and cool technology. Crossfire: Legions, currently in development by Prime Matter in collaboration with Blackbird Interactive, is an upcoming real-time strategy (RTS) game that is hoping to be a huge hit among competitive-RTS gamers. With hectic combat and fast-paced base building, Crossfire: Legion has a good foundation but still has room to grow.
Insert New Horizon, the newest faction to enter Legion. A global syndicate of corporations, New Horizon aims to lead humanity into a transcendent future, with the use of AI technology to improve all aspects of society. With their own heavy firepower, they will end the fighting and usher in the future for all. New Horizon has some of the most powerful and expensive units in the game. Some of their vehicles can easily win 2v1’s, or even more if upgraded. Towering mechs, railgun tanks, and even a drone launching aircraft all augment this roster with a terrifying amount of firepower and shielded units. Led by a trio of commanders whose abilities utilize their tech-focused goals, New Horizon will happily crush the opposition to make their dream future a reality.
There is currently a demo available on Steam, if you would like to give Crossfire: Legions a try and check out the new faction. Thanks to the folks at Prime Matter, I’ve had the opportunity to be involved with the technical test and the earlier press test. You can read my first impression here. With this newest faction, I have newfound hope for the game.
Initial Thoughts on the New Horizon Faction
New Horizon has an interesting roster, featuring a melee infantry unit and the aforementioned mechs and drones. Their units are quite expensive, but they do pack a punch. Using the melee infantry ‘Vampires’ as fast-moving assassins was enjoyable, using their dash ability to jump in or out of combat while they stole life from enemy units. They were even able to stand toe to toe with tanks of the other factions, and a swarm can easily spell doom for any vehicle.
The best part of this roster was undeniably the towering ‘Titan’, a two-legged mech with shields and heavy missile weapons. Able to launch itself towards enemies, quickly recharge its shields, and do a huger stomp attack, it was a walking death robot. With area-effect missile attacks, nothing could stand in its way for long. With each Titan only able to be taken down by concentrated fire, utilizing other troops and commander abilities to devastate enemies made each engagement feel more micro-managed, but not in a bad way.
I can say that New Horizon is my new favorite faction in the game, and am excited to see how it continues to grow in the coming months. While I wasn’t originally thrilled with my first impression, the forward momentum I am seeing has me ready for more.
