DC’s FanDome convention has started and already it is packing some heat! The second event of the day was WB Games Montreal’s reveal of a previously-untitled upcoming game. We finally have the name of the game plus some story and gameplay trailers! The game is called Gotham Knights and will take place following Bruce Wayne’s death.

Players will take on the mantles of Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing, and Redhood as you fight for Gotham and uncover a secret plot. Batman hasn’t left them empty-handed though. He had a contingency plan in place in case this should happen. The Knights will use the Belfry as their HQ with all of its gear and tech at their disposal.

The Court of Owls make an appearance at the end of the trailer and hint at something big. I think that they’re in one way or another part of Bruce’s death. There wasn’t much shown of them besides their hideout and a ton of hanging coffins. It looks to be another exciting story into the Arkham universe!

As if the announcement trailer wasn’t enough, WB Montreal also graciously debuted a gameplay walkthrough! The video is over 7 minutes long and jam-packed with great details. The heroes featured in it are Batgirl and Robin as they find a way to infiltrate Mr. Freeze’s not-so-secret lair. He’s using his “Storm Engine” against Gotham and dropping its temperature dangerously low.

The video is not short on showing off its fighting mechanics at all. We get to see the characters’ fighting styles as well as their tech weapons. It looks like this time around the combat is taking an RPG approach. Enemies have difficulty levels above them and attacking them chips away points. We also get to see the team-combo moves where the Knights take down a bad guy in unison.

I really like the fact that this will be a multiplayer story. It does seem very similar to Marvel’s Avengers in that regard. Hopefully, I’m wrong and this game fleshes itself out more to stand alone from it. It’s pretty interesting though that the Avenger’s game struggles with the death of Captain America and this game struggles with Batman’s death. We shall see though. The game does not have a solid release date but is slated for 2021.
