With just a few weeks until its release, it looks to be a great time to shine some more light on Windbound! Last month we got a first look at gameplay which was commentated by 5 Lives Studios co-founder and lead animator, Mitch Clifford. He showed off the game's exploration, combat, survival mechanics, and story elements during the video which takes place in the first few hours of the game.
My favorite take away from the video has to be the sailing and boat mechanics. You can paddle your boat through the ocean using oars, but adding a mast will make it a lot easier to navigate the massive ocean. Be careful to use those sails correctly, as the wind will try to overcome you. Raising, lowering, and tilting your sails will help in maneuvering the rough waters and windy breezes you’ll face.
Another great feature is that you can upgrade your boat whenever you'd like, granted you have the sufficient crafting supplies required. On your voyage you will also come across mystical sea creatures called the Nautilus, which you'll get to uncover more about along the way. This looks to be a game that truly gives the players a chance to go on a fantastical adventure!
A few weeks prior to the video we were shown that if you pre-order the game, you're given some pretty cool looking items for your main character, Kara. An ancestral oar, knife, and set of clothes are yours to don on your voyage. These items have been passed down from generation to generation, and now it's Kara's time to equip them. Hopefully, we’ll get to customize Kara with even more items that we can find on the islands we get to explore.
I’m very interested to see all of what the game has to offer! There's still some time before Windbound comes out to pre-order and get the bonus items! The game comes out on August 28th for Xbox One, and PC (Steam & Epic).
