Parris Lilly of GamerTag Radio and Kinda Funny fame took the stage on Thursday to helm Xbox’s extended E3 presentation and show off some deeper looks at some of Xbox’s most exciting, upcoming games. Part of the presentation included the announcement that Xbox Design Labs is back for the new generation of Xbox consoles. Featuring hundreds of color combinations and the new controller design that comes bundled with the Xbox Series console family, Design Labs took the internet by storm. Brands like DiGiorno got involved in the fun while some game developers like DoubleFine decided to try their hand at a fun color combination inspired by their upcoming game, Psychonauts 2.
Design Labs allows gamers to customize their own Xbox controller with different colors for just about every part of the controller down to the triggers, joysticks, bumpers, and even the face buttons. They’ve got 18 total colors to choose from, including three new ones that weren’t available for the previous generation. You’ll also have the option to add an engraving to further personalize your controller. Custom controllers come at a base price of $69.99, slightly more expensive than a standard controller, but adding an engraving will cost an additional $9.99, all before tax.
The controllers take about three to four weeks from ordering to arrival, no doubt as a result of their custom nature. There’s also presumably high demand for the service as the site has had some trouble loading, but once in the design suite is intuitive and reactive to your choices, showing off what your prospective controller might look like before you buy. You can try Xbox Design Labs for yourself right now at Xbox Design Lab | Xbox.
