Last week, we broke the news that the cult-classic Xbox 360 game, Alan Wake would be making a big move onto most current and next-gen hardware via Alan Wake Remastered. You can read more about that right here! During the PlayStation Showcase last Thursday, the game made an appearance and debuted its announcement trailer.
The trailer re-introduces old and new fans to the titular writer, Alan Wake, and gives bits of details on what players will be able to expect when it releases on October 5th. While I’ve seen many online pulling the game apart upon seeing the trailer, you have to remind yourself that it isn’t a remake. All this game is going to be is an upgrade in textures, details, and performance. It isn’t a full overhaul of the game itself.
In defense of the game though, the original Alan Wake really doesn’t look too bad even by today’s standards so I say to give this remaster a break. The most noticeable change in the trailer is Alan’s face, and it can be jarring to old-time fans but I found it a welcomed one.
This new Alan looks more in line with the actual actor/model, Ilkka Villi, who plays him in the live-action scenes and sequences from Alan Wake, Alan Wake: American Nightmare, and even Quantum Break. It also creates better continuity which will ease players into a sequel if that’s their master plan.
Alan Wake Remastered is set to release this fall on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC.
