Publisher PQube has officially brought their ruthless survival horror Tormented Souls to the Nintendo Switch! Developed by Dual Effect and Abstract Digital, Tormented Souls is a homage to the classic titles of the PS1 era. Games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill terrified players with their claustrophobic hallways, tricky puzzles, and characters that fare about as well against otherworldly horrors as you might expect the average person to.

It follows Caroline Walker, who receives a strange envelope containing a photograph of two young girls that resonates enough with her to cause her to follow its trail to the remote Winterlake Island and the mansion hospital upon it. Shortly after entering she is struck from behind and awakens deep inside, attached to antiquated medical equipment and missing an eye. Clearly, something is very wrong, and trying to escape the place will bring more of the mysteries of the photograph, the hospital, and the island’s dark past to light.

The gameplay combines exploring the hospital, solving puzzles, and trying to engage or avoid the horrors inside. Doing so means keeping a close eye on resources like ammunition and health, and trying to stay in lit areas to avoid the deadly property’s total darkness which has grown in this haunted place. It is not for the faint-hearted.

Tormented Souls is available on the Nintendo Switch via the Nintendo eShop. Previously released ports are available for Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam).
