Atlus Reveals New IP METAPHOR: REFANTAZIO

Atlus, the renowned developer behind the Persona series, has revealed its next new IP as part of today’s Xbox Games Showcase. Metaphor: ReFantazio is the Japanese developer’s latest RPG, and the game’s reveal trailer shows off a wild fantasy that promises yet another unique adventure for gamers around the world.

In true Atlus fashion, Metaphor: ReFantazio appears to be an incredibly deep role-playing game with a variety of characters, abilities, and stats to manage. Certain elements from the trailer also appear to have similarities to the Persona games, including forming bonds with other characters and a calendar/time-of-day system.

The teaser also shows brief glimpses of gameplay as well. Combat appears to be turn-based but with a wide range of control over how players approach each encounter. The player character is also shown running through a medieval-style city, riding on an airship, skateboarding, and exploring an ominous, red-tinted location.

Metaphor: ReFantazio is slated to release sometime in 2024. At the time of this writing, it is currently only confirmed to launch on Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam. Other platforms may be revealed at a later date, but Atlus and Xbox’s close relationship over the past few months might see the title remain a timed exclusive.
