During my time at the Kalypso booth at E3 2019 I got to check out early builds of 2 classic Pyro Studio games getting the HD remaster treatment, Commandos 2 HD Remaster and Praetorians HD Remaster! Commandos is easily one of my favorite childhood franchised. When I found out a remaster of Commandos 2 was in the works I got very excited! For anyone unfamiliar with Commandos, you take command of a small team of elite commando operatives during World War 2. Each commando has a unique trait or ability that make them suited for any particular mission. Using these units to their full potential is key to success and even so much as losing one of them could mean defeat!
Commandos 2 was unfortunately not playable but an alpha demo was shown giving me a close look the games early levels. The game is being rebuilt entirely in the Unity engine so most of the background art had yet to be touched from the original release.. However, even in this early stage of development the improved models really shone through and looked fantastic! Commandos 2 is expected to ship by the end of the year for PC PS4 Switch Xbox One and mobile.
Praetorians is a classic RTS set during the early day of the Roman Empire. Take command of the Roman legion and face off against Egyptians and Gauls. I missed this one back when it originally released in 2003 so I am quite interested in picking up the new remaster! Like Commandos 2, Praetorians is being remade in Unity and the early alpha build on display showcased the new HUD elements and higher fidelity models. Praetorians HD Remaster is expected to launch at the end of 2019 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One!
