What’s Old is New
As reported by Bloomberg, supposedly the Vicarious Visions team who so amazingly crafted the remaster of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2 last year, has been absorbed into Blizzard and is working on a Diablo II Remaster. I for one, absolutely cannot wait if they treat Diablo II with much detail, accuracy, and respect as they did Tony Hawk. Time will tell as no official announcement been made. For now, though, what about those who want to replay Diablo II or dive in and see what they’ve been missing?
Diablo II is one of the most beloved ARPG’s in modern gaming history and while it definitely has it’s flaws, the biggest one in 2021 is the fact that the game only officially supports 800x600 as a maximum resolution. In the era of 4K monitors and TV which at a resolution of 3840x2160, the old school 800x600 just doesn’t cut it. Well, that’s where Project Diablo II comes to the rescue. You can play the game windowed or full screen at a variety of resolutions complete with filters. All the screens and video in this article were captured in 1080p with an included CRT filter. While these images and video may look primitive by today’s standard, they are a massive step up from the original 800x600 quality of the game.
Wanna dive into Diablo at higher resolutions now complete with new ladders and online play? Here you go:
1 - Install Diablo II and LoD Expansion pack (Any version should work)
2 - Download and install Project Diablo II (Make sure to point it to your base Diablo II directory)
3 - Before you launch the game, edit your ddraw.ini file under your Diablo II\ProjectD2 directory and use the settings in step four
4 - Use these settings to match our recommendations from this article (1080p windowed with CRT filter)
5 - Click click click. Loot loot loot.
