Naenka makes a few different kinds of bone-conduction headphones at all different price points. Ranging from base model headphones, to sport water resistant, and even all the way to fully submergeable. Today I’m going to be looking at the Runner Diver2 Bone Conduction Headphones. Let’s take a look!
What’s In The Box?
The kit includes more than I thought it would and in a good way! When you open the box you have the headphones presented to you separately from the rest. Then when you lift the plastic that the headphones are in, you see the nice little gifts they give you. It comes with three pairs of ‘sound enhancers’ which are little pieces you put in your ear to drown out sounds so you can more clearly hear the music being played. You also get a pair of earplugs for swimming which I thought was nice since the whole thing about these is that they are waterproof and you can swim with them. Then of course the charging cable because what would you do without it?
Aesthetics And Build Quality
These headphones are very slim and lightweight, so they sit on your head and you almost don’t even feel them. They’re very flexible also so they fit around pretty much anybody’s head. The design is very interesting too, I couldn’t quite put my finger on it at first but they mention it on their website, it’s designed to look like a seahorse and I totally see it now.
They seem sturdy to me even though there are warnings not to drop them, which makes me nervous. But they are made as athletic headphones and are built for swimming.
Special Features
First and most prominent, these headphones don’t go in your ear nor do they go over your ear. They rest right on top of where your cheekbone meets your ear. Then the headphones send vibrations that act as soundwaves and play music for you to hear and nobody else. That was what I found most interesting, wearing them I could hear conversations and what was going on around me but nobody else could hear that I was listening to something.
There is a Bluetooth setting for your normal workouts or whatever you plan to use them for. Then there is also an MP3 setting where you can download music straight onto the headphones. You can use the MP3 mode if you plan to swim with them. That’s right, swim with them, these headphones are fully submergeable and you can listen to music while having a day at the pool or doing a swim workout at the gym.
If you want to take these headphones in the water you’ll need to dust off the old MP3 downloader. After downloading some songs onto the headphones you can set it to MP3 mode having it either play in order or shuffle play. Then you can bust out the provided earplugs and swim however you please. I swim for workouts at the gym every once in a while so I figured that would be the perfect time to try it out, I have no complaints. Obviously, the sound isn’t perfect, but it gets the job done perfectly and you get some tunes while you swim.
What It Could Have Done Better
For what they are, they’re impressive. But still, there are some slight issues when it comes to higher volumes. I’m sure I’m not the only one but I like to listen to my music on full volume, when you start getting up to those high volumes you start to feel a rattle or a tickle in your ear that isn’t painful but can become uncomfortable after a while. Those with sensory issues beware because that tickle can become overbearing pretty quickly.
Verdict
The Runner Diver2 Bone Conduction Headphones come with some cool technology that I do like. I like being able to pay attention to my surroundings while listening to a Podcast or a baseball game. Even more so I like that you are able to swim with them. While I was skeptical at first, mostly worried about how it would make my ears feel, I was pleasantly surprised. Like I said before, if you have sensory issues beware but other than that I say give them a shot.
The Naenka Runner Diver2 Headphones are available on the Naenka website for $189.99 USD, but if you act now they are currently discounted at $169.99 USD!
