On January 31st, 2019, in Miami, Florida; an outdoor concert sponsored by Universal Pictures was held to hype up the release of Fast and Furious 9. The franchise is Universal Pictures’ most financially successful to date. The 9th mainline installment in the popular film series (10th overall) had it’s titled revealed this week: F9: The Fast Saga. The series is notable for having idiosyncratic titles for each film.

At the event, cast members Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson and director Justin Lin spoke. This is Lin’s 5th (non-consecutive) contribution to the series as director. Series cast member and popular rapper Ludacris did double duty performing some of his hit music.

To punctuate the convert, the trailer was dropped. Looks like the crazy action will take place in London and Thailand. Han, a character not seen since Fast & Furious 6 returns to the series and John Cena joins as the main antagonist: Jakob Toretto; Dom’s younger brother.

The trailer is expected to play as a Super Bowl LIV commercial spot.
