During Capcom’s showcase, long-time fans were treated to a brief and visually stunning teaser of the latest Resident Evil remake, Resident Evil 4. The brief showcase showed off a more dark and horrific RE4 setting, which seems to be taking inspiration from its original concept. Will we see a more horror-focused RE4? Only one can hope, but with Capcom’s track record with the recent Resident Evil franchise, I think it would be a smart move to implement more of a focus on survival horror to make this version of RE4 memorable.
The gameplay footage shown reveals a much darker tone for the village and forest area in the familiar Spaniard setting running on Next-gen hardware. Leon is shown traversing through the level and takes out his gun, aiming it around a corner with caution. Not much is shown but seeing the game in motion was a special treat for fans. Only one can hope to have more footage shown sooner than later.
Not many other details have been revealed so far for this remake. No mention of game modes or specific changes to gameplay, but one can probably assume that the RE2 and RE3 remakes will have a heavy influence on this new title. I personally hope for an expanded mercenary mode with this release and it would be the perfect opportunity to bring back a co-op mode, even if it's specifically for mercenaries.
Resident Evil 4 is launching on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
