The mythical day has finally arrived and Halo: Reach has joined the Master Chief Collection! Reach has long bee a requested addition from series fans and now that it is here I gotta say, this is how the game was always meant to be played. The transition to MCC has given Reach a much needed resolution bump from its original 540P presentation to a nice 1080P or 4K output. the FPS has also been doubled from 30 to 60. Though to be fair, the game had significant FPS drops on original 360 hardware. Playing the game through the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility program smoothed out these drops but it pails in comparison to today’s new offering. Another bonus of the transition to MCC is the removal of all the awful motion blur that plagued the original game to try and mask its lower resolution and frame rate.
The game became available on Steam, Windows Store, and Xbox One nearly 3 hours ago and I have to say I have yet to run into any issues in either campaign or multiplayer. The game looks great with its new enhanced graphics mode and it plays like a champ with new mouse and keyboard controls. I have to admit though, I will always play Halo with my controllers! I am also glad 343 added in cross progression between all the versions of the game because now no matter where I choose to play I will be working towards the same unlocks. I have only had 3 hours to re-visit Reach so far but it has been an absolute blast! If you haven’t played it before, or maybe it has been a few years since you have, check it out on MCC I think you will all enjoy it too!
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is now available on Xbox and PC as part of Xbox Game Pass.
