Iam8bit is no stranger to republishing older cartridge games for the SNES with previous experience in re-releasing both Mega Man X and Street Fighter 2. Today they have announced a new game for their Legacy Cartridge Collection in the form of Earthworm Jim 1 & 2! This cartridge will be a compilation of both original titles in the Earthworm Jim franchise and come bundled in a premium tri-fold box. The cartridge is playable on both real SNES hardware and clone systems. The game will also ship with various goodies including a premium manual with a “mystery forward” and other retro pack-ins. The game is limited to just 2000 copies and is being sold for an extravagant $134.99. The cartridge itself comes in a pink color with 100 out of the 2000 being cow colored. Pre-orders for the Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 Collectors Edition begin May 21.
Having picked up each of the previous Legacy Cartridge Collection games I know that the quality of the release will be top notch with a high quality box and pack-ins. I don’t know who they are trying to sell this to at that price however as each previous release was already being scoffed at at an even $100. Unless you are a huge collector or die-hard Earthworm Jim fan I’m not sure the quality outweighs the cost this time.
