Sony and Insomniac Games have finally put the rumor mill to rest: Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is slated for a Fall 2023 release. The blog post mostly focuses on the full 2023 lineup, but it does reiterate that the next outing for Marvel’s web-slinging heroes will be exclusive to the PlayStation 5. The blog post is accompanied by some stills from the reveal trailer, including the terrifying visage of the iconic villain, Venom.
Rumors began swirling earlier in the week when PlayStation released their yearly wrap-ups and fans noticed that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 wasn’t included in the list of games coming in 2023. Adding to the confusion was a profile update from an Insomniac artist stating that the forthcoming game was slated for a Fall 2023 release.
Sony has cleared up the rumors and confusion with this post while also affirming that the next game will feature both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as co-leads. Whether or not we’ll play as both characters remains to be seen, but the success of Miles’ spinoff suggests that may be the case.
In case you missed it, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was originally announced at the 2021 PlayStation Showcase. The reveal trailer shows Miles and Peter fighting some street thugs with their usual, acrobatic flair, while Kraven the Hunter monologues in voice-over and Venom lurks in the shadows. Insomniac also revealed their other, in-development project at the same showcase: Marvel’s Wolverine, which has no confirmed release window.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is expected to launch in Fall 2023 exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
