Retro plug and play console My Arcade has just announced a new partnership with Konami to bring out 2 new units based on the one and only Contra! First is the Micro Player version that looks just like a shrunken arcade cabinet with side banners and top label all included! There is even a miniaturized arcade stick and buttons to use while playing. You also gotta love that the quarter slots are nicely represented as well! The second device is part of My Arcades Pocket Player line and looks reminiscent to a Game Boy Micro. Both units will feature the arcade version of the original Contra, while the Pocket Player will have the added bonus of including Super C! Both units will feature the games signature co-op by utilizing My Arcades new CO-VS Technology. Both players will require their own unit to utilize this functionality.
I gotta admit the design of both units is looking pretty slick from these early concept screens! I love the first Contra so I might need to grab the Micro Player version to relive my younger years. As long as the screen, emulation quality and controls work well I don’t think I could be happier. Both of the new Contra units are expected to launch this season. No price has been officially given for either device but it would probably be safe to assume it will go for around $35 like other My Arcade devices.
