Shiny Shoe, the creators of the successful roguelike Monster Train are releasing their new indie roguelike cooperative game Inkbound to Early Access on May 22nd. Inkbound is a fluid turn-based roguelike that combines cooperative action, roguelike mechanics, and an MMO-style setting. Players can team up with others across the world to explore the magical site Atheneum and the infinite worlds contained within it, with each run offering a unique experience and a new challenge.
Inkbound's combat system is turn-based, requiring players to adapt their strategy as each run’s build evolves as they play. Draftable abilities, ability upgrades, and hundreds of items are available for players to find throughout the game. Inkbound also offers solo adventures, but players are encouraged to band together to explore the world safely and unlock its countless rewards.
Inkbound’s universe will continue to expand over time, with new books, characters, and challenges added regularly. Unfortunately, Inkbound's launch will also include a season pass, which will provide players access to in-game cosmetics and currency for the cosmetic store, once more increasing the hold of microtransactions on the gaming industry. Fortunately, as a free-to-play option, players who reach the max level will earn enough currency to access the following season's pass, with extra currency left over to use as they wish.
Inkbound's world is centered around the magical Atheneum, which contains all the stories ever written in its vast library of books. Players can meet with friends and strangers in the Atheneum to party up into groups of up to four, before opening a book to another world where they will face unique threats and build their character.
Inkbound will be available in Early Access on PC via Steam on May 22nd.
