Ninja Theory gained a lot of recognition when they released Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice back in 2017. The studio was then bought by Xbox Game Studios and officially joined the AAA scene. The developers released a gameplay trailer for their new game and sequel to Hellblade titled Senua's Saga: Hellblade II.
Senua is back and just as pained and traumatized as ever. The game looks to continue the themes of psychosis, mental health, and PTSD with Senua traversing a cave system in the trailer while the voices in her head whisper cryptic messages in her ear. The trailer didn’t reveal much in terms of gameplay but thanks to other prior marketing pieces, it seems that trolls will be a big factor. How Senua will handle these giant creatures and if the trolls are even real will have to wait to be seen. They could approach combat like Shadow of the Colossus which would make for a very immersive experience.
The main gameplay loop of illusion-based puzzles and strategic sword fights will most likely make a return to fill out gameplay between the epic troll interactions.
Senua's Saga: Hellblade II will be released sometime in 2024 for Game Pass, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
