Halo has had its ups and downs when it comes to PC gaming. The series began life as a Macintosh exclusive before the developer, Bungie, was purchased by Microsoft. After the purchase, Halo was reworked into the titular Xbox launch game and franchise. Two years after its original Xbox launch Halo finally made the jump back to PC with a Gearbox developed port. At the time of release the port suffered from some performance issues on most PC hardware and several graphical features from the original Xbox version were also missing. Of course the progress of time has made the PC version of Halo a very easy game to run on modern hardware and thanks to modders, the original graphical effects have also been restored.

In 2004 the second entry in the Halo franchise, Halo 2, landed on Xbox and changed the future of online gaming as we knew it. It took nearly 3 years for Halo 2 to make its way to PC and when it did it was a Direct X 10 exclusive game. Direct X 10 was exclusive to the then newer Windows Vista Operating System. This move severely pissed off many fans and for the ones who did play it experienced performance issues on all but the highest end hardware at launch. Once again the advances in computer technology has made running Halo 2 on PC a non issues as every OS since Vista has been able to run the game and hardware now can play it without issue. Unfortunately, the game also used the now defunct Games For Windows Live service for its multiplayer component. Modders have since removed GFWL and restored multiplayer functionality to the game.

In September of 2007 Halo 3 launched to critical acclaim on Xbox 360 and the wait for a PC version began. Numerous rumors over the years pointed to the existence of a Halo 3 PC version including a brief moment where the title showed up in the steam database.back in 2013. Unfortunately no PC version of Halo 3 or any other main-line Halo game since, minus the multiplayer component of Halo 5, has come into existence, that is until now. A new rumor has started floating the existence of a PC port for Halo: The Master Chief Collection! The rumor comes courtesy of Brad Sams, a known source of information regarding Microsoft. According to Brad, the project has been “Microsoft’s open secret” and development has been going for some time. An announcement and possible launch of the game has also been teased to be as soon as E3 2019. With Microsoft’s big focus on bringing its games to both PC and Xbox in the last few years it only makes sense that MCC would soon get the same treatment. As with all rumors take this with a grain of salt until official confirmation can be given. you can check out Brad’s video below.
