It’s safe to say that Obsidian has been one of my favorite developers since the launch of Knights of the Old Republic 2 back on OG Xbox. When it was announced that Microsoft would be acquiring the studio it felt oddly like a coming home of sorts. With games like Kotor 2, Falout: New Vegas, and most recently The Outer Worlds, it is interesting to see what they will bring to the Microsoft ecosystem. I wasn’t disappointed, as during today’s Xbox Games Showcase, Obsidian was ready to show off not 1 but 3 separate things in the works for long time fans such as myself!
The Outer Worlds: Peril On Gorgon
The Outer Worlds is getting its first story based DLC this September across PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Set on the Gorgon Asteroid, players are trying to discover the how Adrena-Time came into existence. Along the journey a number of new weapons, items, armor, and perks will become available. The games base level cap is also being raised for all of you tout there already sitting with a maxed out Stranger! Peril On Gorgon will cost $14.99 across all platforms with Game Pass subscribers getting an extra 10% discount. If you want to bundle your Outer Worlds DLC purchase, an expansion pass is also available that combines both story expansions for $24.99.
Grounded
Ahead of its early access launch on July 28, Obsidian has given us a new look at its upcoming survival game Grounded. The trailer showcases the games co-op gameplay as well as structure building and combat. Probably the greatest aspect to the trailer though, is how Obsidian blatantly points out how this isn’t their traditional style of game and that great Cyberpunk 2077 reference! Grounded looks like it will be a great little (pun intended) survival game and I can’t wait to try it out next week in early access.
Avowed
The last reveal from Obsidian came in the announcement of Avowed. For fans of Obsidian’s roleplaying roots this is the announcement you have been waiting for! Set in the same universe as Pillars of Eternity, Avowed has players using swords and sorcery to take out enemies. While the trailer above is mostly just a teaser, it is definitely great to see another game that can potentially scratch that Elder Scrolls itch. Avowed is set to come exclusively to Xbox Series X and PC when it eventually launches in the next couple of years.
