PALADINS Announces A Battle Royale Mode Called BATTLEGROUNDS

Hi-Rez’s popular team-based shooter Paladins, is introducing a new battle royale mode called “Battlegrounds”, this new addition will be a free-to play expansion that will let 100 players battle it out in 20-minute matches on a large map. Battlegrounds was “designed from the ground up to be played in teams,” but will still retain the class based team composition.

“Players spawn into a massive map-over 300 times the square footage of a typical Paladins’ Siege map. Then they hop onto their mounts and begin exploring, looting their way through more than four dozen outposts and tracking zeppelins that drop legendary gear.”

An early alpha version is going to be available to players at this weekend’s Hi-Rez expo and the full Battlegrounds will be released some time late this year. Check out the trailer for Battlegrounds below:

The introduction of the battle royale mode seems to be the growing trend for games like Paladins, PUBG, and Fortnite. Last September, Fortnite also released their own battle royale mode that is called Fortnite Battle Royale, which prompted a response from PUBG’s vice president.

“After listening to growing feedback from our community and reviewing the gameplay for ourselves, we are concerned that Fortnite may be replicating the experience for which PUBG is known.”

Even though nothing came out of the concern raised by PUBG, I wouldn’t be surprised if they will call out Paladins’ Battlegrounds just as they did with Fortnite. What do you think of Paladins’ new battle royale mode? Are PUBG’s concerns regarding other games copying their format valid? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
