It’s no question that Turtle Beach’s peripheral brand ROCCAT has been crushing this year and their latest Syn Max Air headset is no different. Offering a charging stand, premium comfort, and all the bonus audio options that the majority of Turtle Beach headset choices offer, this is a solid headset choice. Let’s get into what all this one offers.

What’s In The Box

Coming with its own charging station, the box itself holds the wall outlet to plug in the charging dock, the headset itself, and the usual warranty and guide pages. This is the starter kit that gets all the aspects of the headset working. This includes a USB-A and USB-C charging cable, a USB-A to USB-C adapter, a removable microphone, and the removable microphone’s slot cover. All you have to do once you open the box is find a place to set up a small charging dock that can always be put away and pulled back out if needed, given its small size.

Inside you will also find a USB-A transmitter if you prefer to have the headset plugged into to connect directly with its own transmitter. However, the headset is best utilized with a Bluetooth connection given it offers a simultaneous connection option for mixing in VoIP chat, phone calls, and more.

Aesthetics and Build Quality

At first, I was a little upset with the headset due to how big I thought it was. It turned out that this thing is so sturdy that the first time you need to move it on the adjusters, you might have to put a little extra push into it. Still don’t go too hard, but the headset does move up and down as you would expect. The range of this movement isn’t very large, but it is enough to change the head size for it to rest on.

The soft cushions on the earcups and headband are nice, but they do clasp firmly. The sturdy side of the headset makes it not very flexible and so you can expect it to have a nice, firm grip over your ears once you put these on. That does, unfortunately, make them a bit uncomfortable when you are trying to leave one ear uncovered and I found that long-period use of the headset to feel a bit tight, but it’s nothing that a little bit of wear time won’t fix.

It does have a sleek black design choice on an aluminum frame and even has its own RGB style while on the charging dock. This RGB can also be customized by programming it with the AIMO eco-system. Plus, the mic itself isn’t just removable, but it has a flip-to-mute feature so you can clearly indicate if your mic is on or not by simply knowing where your mic is at.

Specs and Special Features

Thanks to their choice to make the Syn Max Air connect via Bluetooth, it is compatible with multiple platforms, including PC (Windows 10 and 11), Nintendo Switch, Mobile via Android, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Of course, this isn’t standard Bluetooth as I mentioned before, they included stellar Wireless technology plus simultaneous Bluetooth audio from your mobile device for mixing in VoIP chat, phone calls, and more.

Detailing the earcups further, they are made with ProSpecs, which means that they truly will conform to your head over time. While they may feel a bit tight at first, they are made to be glasses-friendly, breathable, and packed with memory foam. While I can’t vouch for the glasses side of things, I can say that they became more comfortable to use not even a week into using them regularly. This style definitely works as intended!

Another thing that is good to know is that this headset is compatible with Turtle Beach’s iconic Superhuman Hearing feature, which boosts critical in-game sounds for an extra edge. Add that on with the 3D audio drivers and you will have a tactical advantage on the battlefield!

What It Could Have Done Better

While the aluminum frame and overall build do maintain a very sturdy headset, if you are someone who likes a little rigidness and light fit to your headset, this one may not be for you. I personally like the lighter fit, so I don’t know how often I’ll be using this headset, but it is the best backup option I could ask for. Despite its sturdy build, it maintains a very comfortable fit once you get the earcups memory foam to conform to you.

Verdict

The Syn Max Air headset is a great headset and offers everything you would expect for the price tag it has! This is one of the most sturdy headsets I’ve ever used and my only complaints fall into the factor that I like a slightly different style. If you are looking to get a top-tier headset that offers style, comfort, and immaculate audio quality, then this is the one you are looking for!
