TERMINAL VELOCITY: BOOSTED EDITION Scratches That Old School Itch

Many lazy summer afternoons of my childhood were spent on my original 486 gaming PC with titles like DOOM, Sierra Adventures, and games from 3D Realms like Duke Nukem 3D and Terminal Velocity. While Terminal may have never enjoyed the boosted popularity of Duke, it was equally impressive as a futuristic space shooter. It features fantastic sound effects, music, and old school gameplay that I hadn’t enjoyed in over two decades.

Now the game is available on Switch, Playstation, Xbox, and PC platforms in a Boosted Edition that features all the goodies below. While I believe the game definitely deserves a remaster or remake, this is the best way to relive or enjoy for the first time, an absolute classic. The game is available now on the mentioned platforms with the following features and enhancements.

  • Greatly extended draw distance lets you target enemies from further away while enjoying the sprawling view of the game's landscape

  • Improved sky rendering code reduces polygon jitter

  • Sound channels are now re-engineered to give you the full 360 effect intended by the original code with output on a modern audio system

  • Achievements/Trophies are being implemented into the game for the first time! These challenges will truly test the mettle of all pilots.

  • Fast-paced flight simulator with combat and a straightforward control layout.

  • Nine (9) unique planets, with three (3) levels per planet, dozens of tunnels, and over 400,000 sq. miles of terrain.

  • Seven (7) destructive weapons, multiple power-ups, and spectacular air-to-air and air-to-ground combat.

  • Enemy ships cast translucent shadows.

  • Bank, roll, loop, and thrust bow-first into battles.
