After years of fan outcry and shattered expectations, Atlus and Sega are finally bringing the mainline Persona series to the Nintendo Switch. Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden, and Persona 5 Royal will all launch on Nintendo’s hybrid console, with Royal kicking things off this October. The announcement took the coveted, final slot at today’s partner Nintendo Direct Mini.
This news comes shortly after the reveal that the same three titles will be debuting on Xbox consoles for the first time, as well as launching directly into Xbox Game Pass. That shocking reveal, which was unveiled at Geoff Keighley’s Summer Games Fest presentation earlier this month, marked the first, official announcement of the core Persona franchise releasing on consoles other than PlayStation. This in turn led to widespread speculation that they would also be coming to the Nintendo Switch.
The Persona series revolves around themes of identity, free will, and the transformative quality of early adulthood. Each title focuses on a different group of kids who stumble upon dangerous, alternate realities and the monsters that reside there. To stop these monsters from invading the real world and attacking its people, the heroes of each game must harness the mysterious power of Persona, a magical ability that’s derived from their own, indomitable spirit.
Persona 5 Royal will launch for the Nintendo Switch on October 21st, 2022. Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden will release later on in 2023.
