I am sure that I have made mention of how big the Tony Hawk Games were for my friends and I at some point here on GT. Maybe it was in my retro review of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 or maybe it was with the announcement of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 Remastered. Either way, the games were a big deal to us and made an impact on our lives at the time! There have been talks for some time about a new documentary being released that would cover the creation of those historic games called Pretending I’m A Superman - The Tony Hawk Video Game Story.

For all you THPS fans out there who have been waiting for this one as I have, the wait is almost over as Wood Entertainment has just announced that the documentary will be available on Digital platforms beginning August 18! First off, the title pulling the lyrics of Gold Finger’s Superman featured in the first game is absolutely beautiful! Now that I got that out of the way, the Pretending I’m A Superman documentary from Director Ludvig Gür covers Tony Hawk’s journey from professional Skateboarding through the creation of the game with Neversoft.

PRETENDING I’M A SUPERMAN is a robust, real-life story of our successful videogame series as told by those who created it, and many who were inspired by it
— Tony Hawk
I’m really excited to partner with Wood Entertainment. It’s been a long journey making the documentary and I’m stoked it will finally be released for skateboarding and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater fans worldwide. The art form and video game had an enormous impact on Generation Y / Z and the story behind it is even more fascinating.
— Ludvig Gür, Director

The documentary will also feature other big names in the skating world from the time including Rodney Mullen, Steve Caballero, Chad Muska, and Jamie Thomas. There are also promises of loads of never before seen footage surrounding development!

Since 1999 the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater Franchise has sold over 9 million units. While the last few entries in the franchise have been met with a lukewarm reception those early entries will forever be remembered for what they were, classics! Being able to see the work that goes into creating some of my favorite games from back in the day is an absolute blast for me and I can’t wait for Pretending I’m A Superman’s release.

Are you excited to check out Pretending I’m A Superman when it releases on August 18?
